Pneumatic Systems: Principles And Maintance

By S.R. Majumdar
Pneumatic systems are the class of power systems that utilize compressed air as a working medium to transmit power, and their working principle is similar to hydraulic power systems. Pneumatic technology is now considered highly important in workplace rationalization and automation, from coal mines and old timber works to space robots and modern machine shops. Therefore, Majumdar explains that it is important for engineers and technicians to have a solid understanding of the working of pneumatic systems as well as the factors that attribute to compressed air’s behavior. Pneumatic Systems: Principles and Maintenance provides the readers a comprehensive overview of pneumatic systems, from the very basics to advanced concepts that are relevant to practicing engineers. In total, there are 12 chapters in this book. Some chapters include Pneumatic Cylinders and Air Motors, Electrical Controls in Pneumatic Circuits, Basic Pneumatic Circuits, Pneumatic System and Physical Units, and Servicing Compressed Air. Through the course of this book, Majumdar has included several well-illustrated diagrams to explain crucial concepts. Majumdar explains that those who have a clear understanding of force physics and pressure would find it easier to understand these concepts. The concepts are explained so simply that even first line technicians would have no difficulty comprehending the fundamentals of servicing techniques and pneumatic circuit design. Through the course of this book, Majumdar has also dealt with troubleshooting and maintenance of pneumatic systems. He has also provided key insights into pneumatic circuit designs. In each chapter, Majumdar has included maintenance problems that help the readers test their understanding. Pneumatic Systems: Principles and Maintenance is a part of the syllabus for undergraduate engineering students of Mechanical Engineering.

Child Development

By Elizabeth B, Hurlock
In this sixth edition of Child Development, which first appeared in 1942, attempts have been made to make it a better teaching tool for instructor`s and a better, more interesting learning tool for students by following changes and additions. First, because of favorable reactions to the boxes used to highlight important facts in the previous editions, more boxes are used in this edition. Second, at the end of each chapter a section has been added to stress the important hazards in the area of development covered in the chapter. Third, the bibliographies, given at the end of each chapter, have been updated by omitting many of the older studies to provide space for the newer ones in the same area. Fourth, fewer graphs from research studies have been used than in the earlier editions of this book. Fifth, while all revisions update old material, this revision has added material from research areas that are somewhat off the beaten track and have not yet appeared in many of the textbooks in child development. Sixth, because of the important role theories about different areas of development have played in spurring research in those areas, a brief discussion of some of the most influential theories has been added. Seventh, to eliminate the distraction to readers of constant reference in the text to sources from which the material has been taken, relatively few references are given throughout the chapters.

Stereochemistry Of Organic Compounds- Prin...

By Dr. D Nasipuri
During recent years, stereochemistry has undergone a phenomenal growth both in theory and practice, with a concomitant increase of interest among the organic chemists, biological chemists, medicinal chemists, and pharmacologists. The present text provides an up-to-date, coherent; and comprehensive account of the subject starting from the fundamentals and leading up to the latest developments as far as practicable. Emphasis has been placed on symmetry-based approach to molecular chirality, stereochemical terminologies (modern stereochemistry is replete, with them), topicity and prostereoisomerism, conformational analysis, dynamic stereochemistry, chiroptical properties, and assignment of absolute configuration to chiral molecules. Dynamic stereochemistry has been discussed with reference to conformation-reactivity correlation, stereoselective syntheses, and pericyclic reactions. A large cross-section of organic reactions with stereochemical implication has been incorporated. Attempts have been made to familiarise the readers with modem instrumental techniques, nuclear magnetic resonance in particular, used for stereochemical investigation. Each chapter is provided with a summary which highlights the main points of the text. Selective references, mostly of textbooks, monographs, review articles, and significant original papers have been given extending sometimes to early 1991. The book is expected to fulfil the long-felt need for a comprehensive text on modern organic stereochemistry which is conspicuously absent since the publication of Professor Eliels book in 1962. The text may be adopted at any stage of the university teaching and at the same time be useful to the practising organic chemists.

Gulliver’s Travels

By Jonathan Swift
Gulliver's Travels is a novel by Anglo-Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift that is both a satire on human nature and a parody of the "travellers' tales" literary sub-genre. It is Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature. The book became tremendously popular as soon as it was published (John Gay said in a 1726 letter to Swift that "it is universally read, from the cabinet council to the nursery"); since then, it has never been out of print. The popularity of Gulliver is such that the term "Lilliputian" has entered many languages as an adjective meaning "small and delicate". There is even a brand of cigar called Lilliput which is small. In addition to this there are a series of collectible model-houses known as "Lilliput Lane". The smallest light bulb fitting (5mm diameter) in the Edison screw series is called the "Lilliput Edison screw". In Dutch, the word "Lilliputter" is used for adults shorter than 1.30 meters. Conversely, "Brobdingnagian" appears in the Oxford English Dictionary as a synonym for "very large" or "gigantic". In like vein, the term "yahoo" is often encountered as a synonym for "ruffian" or "thug". In the discipline of computer architecture, the terms big-endian and little-endian are used to describe two possible ways of laying out bytes in memory; see Endianness. The terms derive from one of the satirical conflicts in the book, in which two religious sects of Lilliputians are divided between those who prefer cracking open their soft-boiled eggs from the little end, and those who prefer the big end.

Math Workout for the New GMAT

By Princeton Review
The Maths or quantitative section of the GMAT is highly important in increasing a candidate’s chances of gaining entry into a good management school. Most schools look at the overall score and then the Maths score to assess the student’s capabilities. The quantitative section score is considered vital because management studies require many fundamental mathematical skills. So, the management institutes want to make sure that the candidate has enough mathematical knowledge to handle the course. Math Workout For The New GMAT provides focused coverage of the concepts necessary for the GMAT. The book does not cover any topic that is not needed for the test. So, there is no discussion of trigonometry or calculus. Each chapter in the book focuses on a single type of problem that is part of the Quant section in the GMAT. The book discusses the maths skills needed to solve that type of problem and clearly explains how to solve them. The Quiz sections in each chapter tests the reader’s understanding of the concepts discussed in that subsection. End of chapter exercises test the reader on the entire material presented in that chapter. The book provides clear answers and explanations for the quizzes and the end of chapter practice sets. Candidates taking the GMAT exam vary in age and experience. Some may have just finished their undergraduate studies, others might have worked for a few years before deciding to continue their studies. In the latter case, candidates might have lost their familiarity with the fundamental mathematical knowledge required. They might need a quick review of the concepts and formulas to fully comprehend the problem. This book takes this into consideration and the mathematical concepts required are fully explained. Math Workout For The New GMAT also covers the new Integrated Reasoning section question types. These include Two-Part Analysis, Table Analysis, Multi-Source Reasoning and Graphics Interpretation. The book first provides general test taking tips, then begins to cover the different types of quantitative problems in separate chapters. It contains 220 practice questions, with answers and detailed explanation for them all. The book also provides tips on different strategies for tackling different types of problems. It provides time saving tips for algebra and geometry problems. It gives hints on how quickly solve challenging data sufficiency questions. It thus shows students how to handle the questions in the Quant section to complete it quickly and correctly and increase their score.

Principles of Artificial Intelligence

By Nils J. Nilsson
Previous treatments of Artificial Intelligence (AI) divide the subject into its major areas of application, namely, natural language processing, automatic programming, robotics, machine vision, automatic theorem proving, intelligent data retrieval systems, etc. The major difficulty with this approach is that these application areas are now so extensive, that each could, at best, be only superficially treated in a book of this length. Instead, I have attempted here to describe fundamental AI ideas that underlie many of these applications. My organization of these ideas is not, then, based on the subject matter of their application, but is, instead, based on general computational concepts involving the kinds of data structures used, the types of operations performed on these data struc tures, and the properties of con'trol strategies used by AI systems. I stress, in particular, the important roles played in AI by generalized production systems and the predicate calculus. The notes on which the book is based evolved in courses and seminars at Stanford University and at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Although certain topics treated in my previous book, Problem solving Methods in Artificial Intelligence, are covered here as well, this book contains many additional topics such as rule-based systems, robot problem-solving systems, and structured-object representations."
